Spring arrived late after snow disaster in Altay
www.chinanews.cn 2006-04-05 18:26:15
Sun Zhaoliang, a wheat field contractor from the eighth company of the
185th regiment of Xinjiang corps, commenced seeding in 58-Mu (9.6 acres)
of wheat fields when the soil moisture content is proper for planting.
The 185th regiment, which is located on the borderline between China and
Kazakhstan, is an area seriously hit by a snowstorm disaster in
Xinjiang's Altay region, with over 1.5-meter-thick snow covering the
ground. After an artificial snow-breaking project, 10,000 Mu (1,650
acres) of wheat fields have begun spring seeding. Heavy seeding machines
rumbled on the snow beside the fields and Altay welcomed another late
spring.
