Spring for China's private flight coming?

www.chinanews.cn 2005-08-15 14:29:51

Chinanews, Shanghai, Aug. 14 - Asian Business Aviation Conference &
Exhibition was held for the first time in Shanghai recently. At the expo,
a business jet "Premier I" was sold for over 50 million yuan. As plane
distributors, buyers and administrators gather in Shanghai, some people
feel compelled to ask: is the spring for China's private flight
development coming?
China's first membership private flight club -- Forefront Private Flight
Club -- was established in Shanghai recently, Forefront Holding President
Chen Zaochun said that private flight is almost a blank in the mainland,
and there is immeasurable potential for private flight development in the
country. Chen expects to have 200 members in the club by the end of this
year and plans to build 7 takeoff and landing aprons in the Yangtze River
Delta region in three years.
To date, the club owns six planes and a dozen or so members from all
around the country, who claim to have gathered together to "play" with
private planes. This club claims to be non-profit but requires all
members to buy an apartment in its private hotel or a villa from the club.
According to relevant senior officials, there are about 70 private planes
in the mainland at present. Although development of private flights is
still hindered by lack of pilots and restrictions on airline application
and airspace, the establishment of this private flight club has obtained
support of relevant authorities. In the future, the government will
undoubtedly support development of private flights, and the current
restrictions will be gradually relaxed.
