China set up moon probing center

China's first "globe of the moon" for scientific research and science
enthusiasts which clearly marks the terrain structure and names of the
moon surface, appeared at Beijing's China Millennium Monument on Aug. 15.

Chinanews, Beijing, Aug. 22 (By Sun Zifa) - The Commission of Science
Technology and Industry for National Defense (CSTIND) held an
inauguration ceremony in Beijing today for the moon probing engineering
center, military project audit center and special nuclear equipment and
security technology assessment and supervision center, signifying that
standardization and professionalization will be realized in these three
aspects.
The moon probing engineering center is mainly responsible for systematic
demonstration, overall design, project implementation and the work of the
office of guiding group of moon probing project. At present, the center
has basically confirmed administrative framework and preliminarily
formulated a series of administration systems covering technology,
quality, plan and outlay.
The newly-established military project audit center will have three
responsibilities. First, it will carry out researches on key problems in
the reform and development of science technology and industry for
national defense, especially researches on policies and measures to
strengthen and improve investment management. Second, it will organize
supervision, inspection, audit and follow-up evaluation for military
projects. Third, the center will provide demonstration, assessment and
inquiry of military projects.
The special nuclear equipment and security technology assessment and
supervision center aims to better implement the supervisory function of
the CSTIND over special nuclear equipment. It will mainly take charge of
assessment of nuclear equipment and security technology and supervision
and inspection on nuclear security to ensure safe operation and
production.
