Lien Chan handed over KMT's reins to Ma

Taipei mayor Ma Ying-jeou (R) and Lien Chan (L), the outgoing chairman of
Taiwan's main opposition Kuomintang (KMT), wave during the party's
congress in Taipei, 19 August, 2005. Ma was sworn in as the new KMT
leader and pledged to continue to reform the party and promote
cross-strait ties.
