China to propel foreign firms to set up trade unions
www.chinanews.cn 2006-03-31 16:37:26
Chinanews, Beijing, Mar. 31 (By Li Jing) - All-China Federation of Trade
Unions (ACFTU) proposed that China should increase its efforts to promote
establishment of trade unions for foreign-funded enterprises on Mar.
30th. Such trade unions will aim their work at employees of non-public
enterprises.
On that day, ACFTU convened a working symposium for establishment of
trade unions for foreign-funded enterprises in Beijing. At the symposium,
ACFTU deputy chairperson Sun Chunlan required that all levels of trade
unions be aware of the importance and urgency of setting up trade unions
for foreign-funded enterprises and take effective measures to boost
establishment of such trade unions.
It was revealed that amongst over 100,000 foreign-funded and Hong Kong,
Macau and Taiwan funded enterprises in Mainland China, less than 30% of
them are equipped with trade unions which have 20 million staff members
in total.
Sun presented ACFTU's goal of carrying forward establishment of trade
unions for foreign-funded enterprises. Sun also requested that all levels
of trade unions, particularly provincial trade unions in regions
abounding with foreign-funded enterprises, should focus on propelling
establishment of trade unions for foreign-funded enterprises at present
and in the future.
