At noon of July 13th, a 68-year-old Tibetan monk had a successful
cataract operation on his right eye. The operation was conducted by
ophthalmologists from the Beijing Tongren Hospital. The monk, from the
Rega Temple in Jinda Village of Jiangda County, arrived in Linzhi after a
40-kilometer journey early in the morning. Tibet has only 50
ophthalmologists and only one for Linzhi. Many patients with eye diseases
resulted from the strong ultraviolet radiation in Tibet can not receive
effective treatment in time.
