Former residence of John Rabe
www.chinanews.cn 2006-03-22 17:46:41
The former residence of John Rabe located in the dormitory area on
Nanjing University's Gulou (drum tower) Campus was under all-round
renovation on March 21. After the Nanjing Massacre, Rabe and other
foreign friends set up an international safety zone and built shelters
for refugees regardless of dangers they faced. Rabe's residence was a
shelter for refugees at that time. The renovation project for this
three-storey house originally built with bricks and wood will try to show
the history witnessed by the quiet courtyard. The former residence of
John Rabe will complete renovation in April and open to the public in
June.
