Drum Yangge Dance chosen as intangible heritage
www.chinanews.cn 2006-03-02 14:27:10
The Drum Yangge Dance (a folk art form of dancing and singing derived
from an ancient martial dance) of Shandong's Shanghe County stood out
from 1,315 candidates from throughout China and was selected by the
Ministry of Culture as one of the first batch of national intangible
cultural heritages on Feb. 27th. Shanghe's Drum Yangge Dance originated
in the Qin (248 BC-207 BC) and Han (206 BC to 220 AD) Dynasties and came
into existence in the Tang (618-907 AD) and Song (960-1279 AD) Dynasties.
Over 100 dance arrays including "two dragons surface from the sea," "King
Lee arrived in the capital" and "Interlink of Eight Diagrams" were
inherited from generation to generation.
