On July 18th, a few children from Miao village were watching open-air
performances of songs and dances. Langde Miao Village is China's first
open-air folk custom museum, and its ancient building clusters have been
listed as a cultural relic unit for state-level protection. The village
was poverty-stricken, but now the Miao people there have resorted to
tourism as an effective way to help them raise incomes and get rich.
Since the opening-up in 1987, the village deeply hidden in the mountains
has received over 1 million tourists from home and abroad.
