China utilized 580b USD foreign investment

Chinanews, Shanghai, July 13 - Officials with the Ministry of Commerce
revealed yesterday that by the end of May 2005, China has approved over
525,400 foreign-funded ventures and the actually-utilized foreign
investment has reached 584.4 billion USD.
Since its opening-up 26 years ago, China has been actively attracting
foreign capital to boost its development. At present, more than 190
countries and regions have investment in China, 450 out of the world's
top 500 multinationals have invested in China and foreign investors have
funded and established over 600 research and development institutions in
China. Last year, industrial production of foreign-funded enterprises
accounted for 28% of China's total and their export value took up a
proportion of 57% of China's total. The number of employees in
foreign-funded enterprises reached 24 million, accounting for 10% of
China's non-agriculture workforce.
While actively absorbing foreign investment, China is encouraging
domestic enterprises to go international. By the end of 2004, China has
made 36.8 billion USD direct investment in other countries and regions,
realized 114 billion USD business volume in overseas project contracting,
and dispatched 3.19 million workers abroad in labor service cooperation
with a revenue of 30.8 billion USD.
